It's taken me two years to recover from the trauma Longwood Vet put me and my sad old dog through so I could write this review. In July 2020 I had to put my blind dog down b/c she had cancer. When we got to Longwood & were set up in the room the two vet techs wouldn't let me near her while they injected the poison (in all fairness it was in the middle of the pandemic, but they were wearing full suits, masks, gloves & plexi face guards). My poor blind dog was scared to death in an unfamiliar environment & she fought & struggled when they tried to put the needle in. The whole time I'm begging them to just let me sit by her & comfort her but they wouldn't let me. They finally gave up & left us sitting in the room for another half hour. At this point my dog was crying, I was crying, & the trauma I was expecting had gotten dramatically worse.
They finally came back & asked if it was OK if they sedated her before they injected the poison. I'm not sure why this wasn't done in the first place--I've been through this before & the dog was always sedated before they injected the poison. Of course I said yes but they still wouldn't let me near her while they struggled to inject the sedative, which they finally managed to do.
I sat by my poor, scared old girl for the last few minutes of her life, which I wanted to be calm & loving. Instead it was frightening & stressful. It took 1.5 hours of emotional hell sitting in that room while they tried to figure out how to handle the situation with a sick, old, blind dog. Why this wasn't figured out in advance is beyond me. The vet techs clearly didn't give a crap about the animal or her owner, just about following protocol & getting paid. I would never ever take an animal there again.
Longwood Vet isn't about giving animals the best care possible. It's only about your wallet

...You know Mr. Carr, that there is an old Navajo folklore saying.. Dogs that have one Brown Eye and One Blue Eye, Can see Heaven and Earth at the same time! Wow! Hearing that clinched it for me!!. I had just purchased my 4th Old English Sheepdog this time a "9 1/2 old puppy who had a blue eye and a brown eye. Dr. Parsons was so very kind regarding this with me and treated us like we had already been patients of her's at Longwood. To go to a New Vet Clinic after going to another one for over 30 years was a personal challenge on my part and I was very aprehensive in changing, but knew I needed to with this Puppy as all my others were purchased as 1 year olds . The moment I walked in to Longwood Vet. Clinic, I was greeted as family, and having never been there before, it was quite a calming thing to feel! You just don't get that personal kind of response usually from a professional business. Dr. Parsons was so very informative and comforting with all of here words and care for Sir Winston, I was just beside myself at times, ... Was this my dog or Dr. Parsons. Sir Winston just turned 1 year now, and we are getting ready to return for our annual check up and basic vac's. Thank you Dr. Parsons, for being so genuine and caring! We love Longwood.Mr. Carr and Sir Winston
